Liberica Coffee Beans
The Rare Coffee with a Bold History and Unique Flavor
Liberica coffee beans are among the rarest and most distinctive coffee varieties in the world. While most coffee drinkers are familiar with Arabica and Robusta, Liberica represents less than 2% of global coffee production, making it a specialty bean treasured by coffee enthusiasts.
What Are Liberica Coffee Beans?
Liberica beans come from the Coffea liberica plant, a species of coffee tree that grows much larger than typical coffee plants. These trees can reach up to 20 meters (65 feet) tall, producing unusually large, irregularly shaped beans.
Unlike most coffee beans, Liberica has an asymmetrical, teardrop-like shape and a unique aroma that many describe as floral, fruity, smoky, and slightly woody.

Why is it different than other beans?
Liberica stands apart from other coffee species in several ways.
1. Unique Flavor Profile

Fruity and floral
Smoky or woody

Sometimes reminiscent of jackfruit or dark chocolate
This flavor complexity makes it popular in specialty coffee communities.
2. Distinct Aroma
Liberica’s aroma is often described as intensely fragrant, sometimes compared to ripe fruit or floral perfume.
3. Bean Appearance
Liberica beans are:
Larger than Arabica and Robusta
Irregularly shaped
More elongated and asymmetric
4. Tree Size
Liberica trees grow much taller than other coffee plants, making them harder to cultivate and harvest.
